2020 AVECCT Application Process

The application process for 2020 is changing and will be divided into a Pre-application (Part A), starting November 1, 2018-March 31, 2019, and the remaining Final Application (Part B) will be due October 31, 2019 for all those that pass the pre-application phase.  We continue to increase our numbers of applications each year, and dividing this application will make the whole process much smoother. 

PRE-APPLICATION (PART A)

The Pre-application will ensure all applicants are actually ready to credential as a VTS(ECC).  In the pre-application we will evaluate:

  • Work History/Hours
  • License history
  • Education
  • NAVTA Membership
  • Continuing Education
  • Skills List
  • References

The pre-application is filled in online and documentation submitted from November 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019.  Note this start is 2 months earlier than our previous application.  Applicants will be notified by April 30, 2019 if their pre-application is accepted.  If your application is not accepted you may have the option to appeal.  Only those accepted applicants can submit Part B. 

FINAL APPLICATION (PART B)

The Final Application will include the Case Logs and Case Reports.  Cases are collected for the entire year November 1, 2018 to October 31, 2019.  You should start logging cases as soon as the application opens.  Case Reports should be written based on cases seen during this year.  Note, you may want to wait until your preapplication is accepted before beginning to write your reports, however you should be collecting possible cases for reports during the preapplication phase. 

 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Why is the application process changing??

A: As the largest Academy, AVECCT receives 60-100 applications every year.  Our Credentials Committee is comprised of volunteer AVECCT Members, and as you can imagine, it is an enormous effort to review each application in its entirety in approximately 60 days. Giving our judges additional time to complete their evaluations will allow them to spend more time on each and every application. 

In addition, as many of our applications each year do not demonstrate the necessary work history, skills, or CE to become a VTS(ECC), breaking the application into Parts A and B allows us to save both the candidates, and the judges, some time and effort; candidates without the necessary experience will be notified prior to spending a great deal of time on case logs and case reports, and judges do not need to review the logs and case reports of applications that have already been declined. 

Q: I won't have enough hours to submit my application until December 2019!

A: This may seem unfair, but this change has to happen, and no matter how or when we do it, someone is going to be unhappy.  We are very sorry about that, but the change is happening for the 2020 examination, and unfortunately if you haven't completed your hours before March 31, 2019, you will have to wait and start your application on November 1, 2019 to apply for the 2021 Examination. 

We should point out that the 5760-hour guideline is the MINIMUM experience necessary to potentially have the skills and knowledge needed to pass our credentialling examination, and we find applicants who rush this process frequently do not make it successfully through the application, or do not do well on the examination. Taking an extra year is not a bad thing, and may allow you to be more successful.

Q: Would you consider any exemptions for those that would have qualified based on the old application timeline??

A: As explained above, we do understand that this will be a difficult transition year.  We understand you may be upset as your plans may need to change.  Again, we are sorry, but there will be no exemptions granted for the transition year. 

Q:  I am applying for 2019.  If my application is not accepted will I have enough time to reapply?

Those applying for 2019 will be notified in mid-March, approximately 2 weeks before Part A is due for the 2020 exam. If you applied for 2019 and were not accepted you will have approximately two weeks to resubmit for 2020.  For the 2020 year ONLY the following sections of your 2019 application will be accepted in the Part A application process.  Please note:  If you any of the below sections caused your application to fail, and they are resubmitted for the 2020 application they will still fail.
